Too Many Draculas Update #4

Progress has been slow on Too Many Draculas. October is always a busy month for me and my family, so that's slowed things down, but the main question that's been causing the slowdown is "Why?"

Why are there too many Draculas? What form do these Draculas take? What components are they? How does the player interact with Draculas? Is the game scary? Funny? Strategic? A party game? Who am I playing as? Dracula? A vampire hunter? Myself?

These are some of the question I've been asking myself all month.

I still haven't decided what kind of game I'd like this to be. I have an image in my head of a papercraft castle covered in Dracula meeples, but I don't know what the gameplay is. Area control? Dudes (Dracs) on a map? Is it a race game? A roll and move? A hidden identity game?

The hardest part of being a game designer is that you have so many choices and mechanisms to choose from, which is the right one?

Which one of these will best capture the spirit of Too Many Draculas??

Too Many Draculas Update #3

October is a big month for Dracula!

In my opinion, part of the fun of making a board game is research, so I took a trip to the Academy Museum in Los Angeles to check out their new exhibit The Horror Show.

There was an entire gallery dedicated to the original blood-sucking maniac complete with Bela Lugosi's cape!
